I purchased one for myself and loved it so much, I purchased another for my son. It works across the furniture or you can just run it up the sides. It is great!

This thing picks up animal hair and debris off of upholstery like you wouldn't believe!
After vacuuming our couch with our nice expensive vacuum with a high-speed brush we still had animal hair all over. We then redone the same furniture with this Handheld and we were shocked by how much hair and other stuff this thing picked up!
It actually pulled so much dirt out of our couch the first time we used it that it filled up the canister! And we vacuum it on a regular basis with our other vacuum (about once every week) because of the cat and dog we have.
The only downside is if you try to vacuum loose debris like on hard surfaces or large fuzz-balls that are not attached will get blown away if you face the exhaust on this thing at them. And let me tell you the amount of air that blows out the sides is like a tornado!

We have four cats & two dogs. Recently bought a new sofa & loveseat in chocolate brown chenille. After two weeks it looked like it was sprouting hair so we bought the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser handheld. Very powerful little sucker and it got all the pet hair. Easy to clean - just pop the nose off and dump. I tucked it away in a basket under my coffee table so I can zip it out for quick pickups. A little detail that makes it especially nice is the velcro strap attached to the cord so you can wrap it securely. For the price, it's a nice vacuum for a specific job.

This vacuum is SO worth the price. I'm actually suprised it isnt more expensive. It's suction power is super strong. It sucked up my rabbit and French Bulldog's hair off the couch, bed, carpet so quickly! It has two different nozzels, the pink rubbery one is good for furniture, the grey slanted one is good for carpet/stairs, etc. I love this thing!
